Kayingdi Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Western Tianshan. The Kayingdi Fm was named by Wang Jingbin et al. in 1982, and was formally published by Wang Jingbin in 1985. The typical section is situated in Tarqiat of the Kokirqin Mountain south of Sitai, Jinghe County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu. Middle formation (4 of 6) of Kiaketi Gr).

Lithology and Thickness
The Kayingdi Fm is dominantly composed of dark gray, black and grayish green thin-bedded laminated siltstone, pelitic siltstone intercalated with banded sandstone, siliceous shale or grayish green shale. Among of these, the darker rock is rich in organic matter (carbonaceous). It is generally 67.2 to 140 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
This formation rests conformably on the underlying glacial-till dominated Biexibastao Fm
Upper contact
It conformably underlies the Tarqiat Fm
Regional extent
Western Tianshan. With a persistent lithology, the formation is widely distributed and exposed from Sayram Lake north of Huocheng County, eastward to Guozigou, Talisayi then along Kokirqin Mountain to Tarqiat, and Kokirqin area, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region). In eastern Kokirqin area, the sequence is complete but westward to Guozigou it is incomplete.
